Social Persistencing DJ-thons

April 5th - June 3rd, 2020

Over a 9 week period, the Ithaca DJ Festival hosted a series of 18 live-streaming "DJ-thons" to raise money for local/regional organizations in need during the initial months of the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis. Our primary concerns were food security, struggling family needs, and mental health.

Taking place mostly during New York State's "on pause" (i.e. stay at home) period, we scheduled 36 diverse DJs who provided over 100 hours of music across a huge range of genres and styles. Most of them live in the Ithaca, NY area and elsewhere in Central NY — but a few are based as far away as Connecticut and Ohio.

A different organization was selected each week to fundraise for. The fundraising goal was set at a modest $500 per week. The intent was to meet that goal each week, with an eventual 9-week grand total of $4,500. Much to our delight, our goals were dramatically exceeded each and every week. Our grand total for the entire series was $10,448.71
